Edens Zero Chapter 279 Review/Recap
The good news is that Shiki’s plan to lure a Chronophage to save Mother is starting to come together. The Crew of Edens is using the power of B-Cube to lure it to them. After that, Shiki will destroy it to stop it from destroying anymore lives. However, the bad news is that Void’s final two allies, Cure and Freyja, are trying to destroy the Edens Zero. While the Crew deals with them, Ziggy shows off his new Overdrive form. And it looks a little familiar.
Like, really familiar.
Recap
As the transmission from the Zero is cut off, Rebecca and the others ask Shiki if he really plans to destroy the Chronophage. Or, for that matter, if he can. Shiki affirms both, saying it will be his last act in this grand adventure.
Aboard the Zero, Jinn faces off against Cure while asking his sister to right the ship. Unleashing the full power of his wind Ether, he keeps Cure at bay, only for him to regenerate from his injuries. Remembering that frustrating power from before, Jinn buckles down and gets ready for a tough fight.
Meanwhile, Homura manages to locate Freyja in the Spa of Edens, the latter having boiled the water away. Boasting how she was created as a weapon of war only to turn on her makers and killed 1.6 billion on both sides, Freyja approaches Homura. Before Homura can react, Freyja moves so fast, she destroys her clothes! Despite being terrified, Homura refuses to back down.
Meanwhile, Ziggy continues to keep Void busy, but this enemy has the advantage thanks to his time-traveling abilities. Or so he thinks, as Ziggy unveils a new Overdrive form and runs his fist through Void’s chest!
Review
Say what you want about Hiro Mashima, but he’s consistent with his work.
At the moment, I have no idea how Shiki plans to destroy the Chronophage. However, I don’t doubt his ability to do so. And its destruction can ensure that what happened to Norma, Guilst, Lendard, and many other worlds will never happen again. Before he kill it, though, he has to make sure it gets there.
As for the last two enemies, I’m only worried about Freyja. She was able to move so fast that she tore through Homjra’s clothes without her noticing. As embarrassing as that is, though, it might be to Homura’s advantage. As I recall, isn’t being naked one way to stimulate the flow of Ether? If that’s true, then Freyja may have just given Homura the means to overcome the difference in power between them. At least this would justify the act without being mere fanservice!
As for Ziggy’s new Overdrive form, it looks an awful lot like the humanoid equivalent of Acnologia, the black dragon from Mashima’s previous series, Fairy Tail. He was the final enemy that the titular guild had to face, and he was a deadly one, at that. The fact that Mashima is reusing his appearance here is either another callback to his previous work, or has some deeper meaning. I’m hoping that it’s the latter, though.
As cool as Ziggy’s new form is, though, I doubt this is the end of Void. For all we know, he could have inherited Rebecca’s ability to rewind time. If that’s true, then he make it so he never got that injury. Either way, Ziggy is going to face an uphill battle from here on out.
I Give “Super Ziggy” a 3/5
