Luz Noceda & Struggling to be Understood

Almost Losing Eda, Confronting Belos, and Losing Her Way Home

As happy as Luz has grown in her new life on the Boiling Isles, things couldn’t stay that way forever. As Eda’s curse steadily grows worse over the course of the Season, Luz enacts a desperate plan to use a field trip to the Emperor’s Castle to try and find a cure. Instead, she finds herself captured and used as bait by Eda’s sister, Lilith, to draw the latter to her. Luz can only watch in absolute horror as her beloved mentor succumbs to the curse and is finally captured by the Emperor’s Coven, with Lilith coldy telling Luz to go back to her world.

Luz’s response? “Heck no.” Together, she and King mount a rescue to save Eda from execution, tearing through the Conformitorium and showing just how powerful she’s become. Despite this, Eda still tells her to take the portal and flee to Earth where Belos can’t get his hands on it, leaving Luz at a crossroads. Should she leave her adoptive home behind, or stay and fight? She ultimately chooses the latter, leading her to confront and duel Emperor Belos and scoring a hit on him. While she’s unable to beat him, though, she manages to outsmart him by destroying the portal to Earth, despite knowing she may never get home.

Despite everything, though, Luz manages to get Eda back, albeit she’s lost her magic. None of that matters to Luz, though, as she still has her found family to help her.

New Feelings, New Revelations, and New Issues

The next few weeks prove to be rough on everyone in the Owl House, with everyone forced to take on odd jobs to help make ends meet. Luz especially starts to feel the guilt, blaming herself as the reason why Eda lost her magic. While Eda reassures her that she doesn’t regret what she did, this is only the first instance where guilt and self-doubt begin to weigh on her.

There is also the fact that Amity’s parents use the chaos her actions have caused as an excuse to get her, Gus, and Willow expelled from Hexside. Thankfully, this gets resolved before any negative emotions arise when Amity blackmails her Mother into letting them back into school. As a bonus, Amity saving her life is the moment when Luz starts to fall for her.

Falling for Amity and Helping King

As Luz and Amity’s feelings for each other continue to grow, things between them become hilariously awkward, leading up to the point where Amity kisses Luz on the cheek, making both their brains melt! However, it also reveals another aspect of Luz that she’s not proud of: her love life.

It’s implied that she’s had crushes back on Earth, only for people to reject her being too cliche or cheesy, something that Amity actually likes. So when Hooty tries to force things, she almosts ends their relationship before it begins. Thankfully for everyone, Luz manages to ask Amity out, and the two are over the moon over it.

Meanwhile, her streak of helping others continues. When King learns that he’s not actually the King of Demons but a stray Demon Eda found, it’s Luz that helps him overcome his sense of self-worth. When Eda’s mom comes knocking, she manages to help the Clawthorne women reconcile after years of estrangement and gets a lead about another Human who once lived on the Isles. Things seem to be looking up for Luz.

Not Knowing What She Wants in Life

The episode “Hunting Palismen,” though, reveals yet another problem that Luz has that she didn’t even know about. When it’s time for her to finally get her own Palisman, she has to speak her deepest wish, only to realize…she doesn’t know what she wants to do with her life. This realization starts to weigh on her as she has clue what she wants to do. Will she stay in the Boiling Isles? Live on Earth? She’s got no clue.

Sadly, this problem gets put by the wayside due to the interference of Hunter, who Luz, without even meaning to, manages to get through to, even if only slightly.
