Daddy Kuma is about to Wreck Saturn

One Piece Chapter 1103 Review/Recap

You know, Eichiro Oda is really good at writing villains who are the absolute worst. There was Akainu, Doflamingo, Orochi, the Five Elders. People whose very existence is offensive to everything good in the world. But as of right now, the person topping that list has to be JayGarcia Saturn. That creature has gone out of his way to take everything good from Kuma. But now, he’s about to get the justice he deserves. Because Kuma is here, and Saturn’s about to learn a very important lesson: never mess with a daddy!

Recap

One Piece Chapter 1103-Sun Sapphire

After seeing all of her Dad’s memories in Vegapunk’s lab, Bonney fell to the floor in tears as the doctor comforted her. As Vegapunk starts to apologize for everything that happened to her daddy, Bonney reassures him that none of it is his fault; it’s Saturn’s. As the two discuss how Luffy is the son of Dragon, Vegapunk gives Bonney the present Kuma got her for her 10th birthday: a sapphire necklace shaped like a sun, a protective charm.

In the present-day, Saturn has Bonney, Vegapunk, and everyone at his mercy. Bonney tries to fight back using her Nika-ish form, but she can’t hurt him. Then, Saturn further break’s her spirit with these whammies:

  • Her dad is dead.
  • Nika is a myth
  • He gave her her powers by injecting her with the extract of her Devil Fruit as a baby.
  • He had subjected Ginny to experiments that led to her gaining sapphire scale.

The last one drives Bonney to tears and infuriates Vegapunk. Now utterly broken, Bonney begins to think that it would better if she was dead as Saturn prepares to kill her while everyone else can only watch in horror.

What none of them realize is that, by this point, Kuma has made his way to Egghead Island. Tearing through the hordes of Marines unleashing round after round into his body, Kuma charges forward with only thought in mind: protect his daughter.

Before Bonney can meet her end, Kuma shield her from Saturn’s attack, finally letting Bonney see her daddy again. Saturn can do nothing but look in horror as Kuma goes on the offensive, preparing to unleash a lifetime’s worth of wrath onto the creature that tried to hurt his daughter.

Review

Can we just get Kuma an award that says “best Daddy in the world” already? Because that man’s love for his child is so great, not even becoming a cyborg can stop it! He is what every Dad should aspire to be!

First things first, though: Saturn is now at the top of the list of One Piece characters whose mere existence I consider offensive. That creature (I no longer consider Saturn human, if he ever was that) has been responsible for almost everything bad in Kuma’s life. He didn’t just help enslave him; the man took advantage of Ginny’s abduction to use her and Bonney as part of his sick, twisted, inhumane experiments. At this point, it would not be wrong to say that he murdered Ginny by giving her sapphire scale! In fact, that is what happened. He MURDERED GINNY, and then used Bonney’s illness to make Kuma his slave again, this time of his own free will. That creature doesn’t deserve to be called a scientist.

Well, as good as Oda is as making absolute hate sinks, he’s also great at ensuring that karma catches up to them. We still don’t know how Kuma knew how to go to Egghead (though I have my theories). Maybe that necklace he left for Bonney serves as a GPS/SOS alarm. Or maybe, no matter how hard Saturn tried to stop it, Kuma remains conscious on some level. I hope it’s the latter. For a being who seeks to control everything, that would be the ultimate F you.

Saturn is Going Down

More to the point, it looks like my wish of seeing Kuma exact justice onto Saturn is going to come true. Saturn turned Kuma into a cybernetic weapon, and now that weapon is being turned back on him. And whether it be Kuma, Luffy, Bonney, or Borsalino, I’m looking forward to seeing one of the Five Elders get what they deserve.

Yes, I said Borsalino. At this point, any enmity I had for the Admiral is now gone. He’s seen firsthand how awful Saturn truly is, and seeing Kuma, Vegapunk, Sentomaru, and Bonney, people he called friends, being treated like this might be his breaking point. He could either outright rebel (which would be awesome) or simply refuse to help Saturn any further. Either way, I hope he chooses to do the right thing in the end.

This chapter got leaked to us a week in advance, and my God, what a chapter it was. I haven’t hated a character in One Piece this much since Orochi killed Lord Yasuie. Before this arc is done, Saturn needs to face justice. No one hurts Daddy’s girl!

I Give “I’m So Sorry, Daddy” a 5/5
