Task Force X, Why Don’t You Get it?

My Adventures With Superman. S2 Ep 4-Lex is the Face of Task Force X

My Adventures With Superman S2 Ep 4 Review

One of the things I love most about My Adventures With Superman is that it’s not afraid to shake things up early on. Last year, it did so in the fourth episode when Lois learned that Clark Kent is Superman. And now, the show seems ready to repeat that! While Lois goes on an impromptu adventure with her Dad, Clark and Jimmy head to a tech expo, only for events to conspire against them. And most of it is, once again, the fault of Task Force X.

They just can’t seem to learn their lesson, can they?!?

General Lane is Not Good at Being a Dad

Thanks to General Lane, things at the Kent-Olsen apartment aren’t improving. He’s convinced that Waller is onto him, and you know what? He’s right-he gets a tip from an ally of his (revealed to be the guy who becomes Toyman) saying Waller is coming for him. And she’s not taking prisoners. As a result, General Lane only has one option: run.

Lois is…not happy with this, as she follows him as he’s trying to do just that. And Lois gets dragged into this mess when Task Force X comes knocking. And she’s not happy about any of it. Not because she’s in danger; she can handle that. It’s because her Dad is trying to leave her again.

Not Good At All

This episode gives our first look at Lois’ relationship with jer dad growing up, and it’s not pretty. She liked those survival training/camping trips they had when she was a little girl, but her Dad’s strictness and secrecy about his job left her feeling all alone as she got older. Especially after her mom passed away! And General Lane? He couldn’t understand any of it. He was so traumatized by the Kryptonian Incursion that that led him to tough on her. It worked; it left fearless and able to care for herself physically. However, it harmed her on an emotional level, and now it’s cost him his relationship with his daughter.

In the end, General Lane still leaves despite escaping Task Force X and getting to Lois’ place and promising to stay. Under normal circumstances, that would be the smart thing to do. However, it should be pointed out that by leaving Metropolis, he’s not only ruining what little ties he has left to Lois, he’s forgoing the best protection possible: Superman.

Then again, Superman and Jimmy dont have it easy in this episode, either.

Task Force X and Lex Being Racist Against Kryptonians

S.T.A.R. Labs is holding its annual symposium, and since this year is about alien life, Jimmy gets an invite as Superman’s best friend. At first, getting to see the best tech in the world seems awesome. Little did either of them know that Lex Luthor invited them to help trash Superman.

Jimmy has to watch and listen as Lex uses the symposium to tell the free world’s leaders why Superman is a menace. While most of his arguments boil down to problems he stopped, such as Parasite and problems that Task Force X caused, Lex makes a good point. If Superman ever snapped, no one on Earth could stop him. Considering how prominent The Boys and their corrupted expy of Superman, Homelander, are these days, he’s not wrong. Other versions of Superman have lost it, too.

Again, though, most of these problems result from Task Force X and their desire to fight an enemy that doesn’t want to fight them. And Lex’s point is ruined by the fact that A.) he’s ignoring how he helped cause some of those problems, and B.) he’s saying, “Earth IS for Earthlings.” that’s pretty racist! However, the damage is done. When Deathstroke and the other operatives chase the Lanes to the event and wreck it, Lex blames it on Superman! And everyone buys it! Now, the government will help Task Force X take him down.

The irony? As Lex says they’re making Earth safer, that armored Kryptonian appears. And if that’s General Zod, then Task Force X is not ready for him.

Things Are About to Hit the Fan Again

The episode ends on a very bleak note for the DPT. Lois has to deal with her Dad running away again! Jimmy feels guilty when he learns that his advice spurred on the man who becomes Superman’s greatest enemy. And Clark? He feels more alone than ever. That leads him to rashly activate the beacon to call his cousin to Earth—all without telling Lois.

I would say we have time to prepare for the storm, but I just saw the teaser for next week’s episode…and the show’s already moving things forward.

Man, I know the show moves fast, but I love this! I am eager to see what comes next!

I Give “Two Lanes Diverged” a 4/5
