30 Day Marvel Challenge, Day 16- The Most Powerful Character

Thanos

Deadpool

Hidey ho, all you nerds out there who must not have anything better to do with your lives. I mean, why else are you sitting in front of the computer and definitely don’t have a box of tissues next to you. We all know what they’re for… to stop the nosebleeds from seeing all those smokin’ hot babes in anime! JK, LOL. Really, LOL? Who writes this stuff, [insert bad writing joke here] Anywho, I’m your deadly neighborhood Deadpool.

You may remember me for Ryan Reynolds senpai’s portrayal of me on the big screen, or those times I fought in Death Battle and got played by Takahata101 (love ya, Nappa. Still waiting for you to call me). Or you may remember me as hanging around on ol’ Jay’s blog back in December. Well, I decided to hij- I mean borrow his blog again for this challenge.

Now you may be wondering, why me? Why of all people would you choose the Merc with a Mouth? Well, it has nothing to do with the fact that my movies were awesome. It’s more to do with the fact that I am just. That. Tough.

The Tale of Dreadpool

Don’t believe me? Then let Uncle DP tell you about his evil twin, Dreadpool.

Once upon a time, the guy who leads the X-Men while cosplaying as Walter White sent the Deadpool from another universe to a mental hospital. They wanted to help him get rid of his… quirks. Instead, the doctor screwed him over harder than Game of Thrones did when Jon didn’t take the Iron Throne.

What, too soon?

Anywho, this Deadpool had the same power that all DP’s have: that voice in their head that reminds them that their existence is a lie and they’re fictional characters. Only now, it told him to do something about it. So this Deadpool decided to break the cycle and proceeded to kill every last character.

Deadpool kills the Marvel Universe

I’m talking hero, villain, mutant, inhuman, gods. Not even freaking Galactus was spared, and that guy eats planets!

Yeah, I Rule!

After he finished racking up a body count higher than all of Game of Thrones combined, Dreadpool went to other universes and started to do the same thing. But he made one fatal mistake. He messed with my chimichanga night! Just kidding! Seriously, though, I kicked his butt.My point is, if that Deadpool could kill every last character in the Marvel Universe, then so can I. Ergo, that makes me the strongest.

Marvel 30-Day Challenge, Day 15- Favorite Rivalry

We interrupt this blog post for some breaking Marvel news: GUESS WHO?

Deadpool's back!

Hi, everyone! I’m your deadly neighborhood Deadpool, and I have given Jay “a holiday” for today’s part of the 30-Day Marvel Challenge. Don’t worry about him; he’s busy working on his theme for next week: “Pride Month in Cartoons.” Spoilers, don’t tell anyone.

In the meantime, let us talk about Jay’s favorite rivalry in Marvel Comics. But then I thought of one better than “Spider-Man and Green Goblin,” so we’re going with mine!

Deadpool and Thanos. The Greatest Rivalry Marvel Has Ever Known!

Deadpool and Thanos having another one of their spats in Marvel
Ahh, good times.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, trolls. Put the torches down and let me explain. Or don’t; I’m digital right now, so I can’t die. Believe it or not, me and Thanos do have a big rivalry. It’s not just because we fought in Deadpool 2, either. Like many useful conflicts, it all started with a woman.

Back when Francis and those jerks at Weapon X were torturing me to give me superpowers, I came so close to dying that I could see Death near me. We both came from different worlds; she was dead; I wasn’t. We ended up bonding and falling in love. Then my Deus ex healing kicked in and put an end to our plans to be together forever. So much for the wedding; she even made a cake!

Deadpool and Thanos fight over the Marvel version of Death

Anywho, we got reacquainted whenever I came close to dying, but when I managed to die for real, Mr. Grimace came in and ruined everything. He wanted to win Death’s heart, and couldn’t stand the fact that she liked me. So he cursed me with immortality to keep us apart forever, and I cursed him by annoying the daylights out of him.

So, Deadpool and Thanos have been at each other’s throats ever since. He ended up taking away my curse because he wants to strangle so much! Yet he can’t because then I’d get to be with Death. Either way, he still loses, and he knows it.

Doesn’t matter. I already moved on to Vanessa. Go watch my movies, Marvel rules!

2018: The Year of Superheroes

All rights go to FANDOM and Screen Junkies. Please don’t get mad at me.

When I look back on the year 2018, there are a couple of things that I want to remember it for (and I will be covering some of them in my Review of 2018 here). Looking back, though, I think I can sum up my memory of 2018 in four words: the Year of Superheroes.

Year of Superheroes

Superhero movies dominated the film industry in 2018, churning out movie after movie up to the final weeks of the year. In hindsight, aside from a few exceptions, the majority of the movies that I went to see in theaters were superhero movies. I didn’t get to see every last one of them, but I saw a good deal of them, sometimes more than once. With the year wrapping up, I thought it would be fun to go back and give my thoughts about what I did see.

So, without further delay, here it is, true believers! My thoughts on this Year of Superheroes.

Black Panther

Dear god, where do I even begin? As someone who has read Marvel Comics for years and scoured the internet for lore, I knew the basics about the Black Panther: the first African superhero. Created in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement, he was a game-changer then, and he is now. This was the first time in living memory (that I know of) that an African or African-American superhero had the spotlight to themselves, and the people who made the film knew how important that was.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think that this movie would be as big as it got. I thought Infinity War was going to be the big superhero movie of the year, but this one seems to have made the bigger cultural splash. I loved it, and I would watch it again in a heartbeat.

Avengers: Infinity War

Spoiler: Hulk is not there in the movie.

From the moment I saw Thanos in the mid-credits to Avengers, I KNEW that this moment was coming. I watched nearly every Marvel film for the last six years, watching the pieces fall into place and the Infinity Stones be revealed. When it finally came, I was one of millions of people who went to the movies to see it. What I saw exceeded my expectations.

I felt I had a lot of reasons to worry about this film not being a success. I was worried that, with so many characters, there wouldn’t be enough screen-time for everyone. Or that, after repeatedly topping themselves so many times in terms of scope, that this would be the moment when the MCU stumbled. Thank GOD that it didn’t.

I was enthralled by the film from start to finish. I gasped out loud at some of the moments, I laughed, squealed in delight, and at one point, I quietly screamed in sorrow.

By the time the credits rolled around, I just sat there with my mouth hanging open. I don’t know if it actually happened, but I swear people started applauding it. This was one of the best movies I have ever seen, and it was a night I will never forget. Big highlight for year of superheroes.

Deadpool 2

I’ll be the first to admit it: once upon a time, I hated Deadpool.

I’m serious. I thought he was annoying as hell. But then Ryan Reynolds somehow made me fall in love with the Merc with a Mouth. Actually, I think it’s more like I’m in love with Ryan Reynold’s performance as Deadpool. I don’t know how, but the way plays DP is just hilarious, and you can tell that he has fun with it. Shoot, I think he only agreed to play Pikachu in Detective Pikachu just to make fun of it as Deadpool.

What were my favorite scenes: just this.

X-Force+ Peter Griffin skydiving

I laughed my butt off with my friends in the theater when I saw what happened to most of the team. It was a big spit in the face of the concept of superhero teams. But then the film manages to top it in the mid-credits by correcting some…mistakes.

And Ryan Reynolds got to stop himself from making the biggest mistake of his career.

Thank you, Marvel.

Incredibles 2

I didn’t particularly like the original film, but I think that when I saw it, I wasn’t in a good mood that day, so that may have affected my viewing. Nonetheless, Pixar and Disney times Incredibles 2 perfectly. With superheroes dominating the box office, this was the best time to release the long awaited sequel. I don’t really know what else there is to say, other than when’s the next one coming out?

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Initially, I wasn’t going to see this movie. Because after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, I thought that there would be no point. There was no way this movie could top it. Overall, I was right. There were no universally-high stakes in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Maybe that’s what moviegoers needed to see, though. It wasn’t as big or as epic as Infinity War, and it knew it couldn’t compete with it. So, it didn’t bother trying. It was a light-hearted film that helped take the edge off of having to wait another year for the next MCU film, and the ending does help set up for Avengers: Endgame.

Teen Titans Go! to the Movies

I was a fan of the original Teen Titans show, so when I saw this show for the first time, I wanted to puke. But then, for reasons I fully don’t comprehend, I decided to go see this movie. And you know what? It wasn’t that bad. Actually it was, pretty good.

Put the torches and pitchforks down. And drop the shotguns.

I still don’t like the show! But the movie made me realize that Teen Titans GO! was never meant to be like the original cartoon. It’s trying to be its own thing and entertain a different audience, and so far it seems to be working. What I’m getting at is that this movie is basically the show telling the haters that it’s proud to be silly, and that doesn’t stop it from being cool when it needs to be. Just look at this!

My Hero Academia: Two Heroes

Considering how much I love superheroes and anime, I wonder how I did not get into My Hero Academia sooner than this year? Well, better late than never. I love this show, and I loved the movie, and I don’t know what I can say clearly to express my admiration for the author or the people who work on the show. I just wish I could find an actual clip of the final battle. The moment you hear “You Say Run”, your hair will start to stand on end in excitement.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Anything that I say here will have already been said in my review of this movie, so I will keep it brief. I thought Infinity War was the best superhero movie of the year, but compared to this, I don’t think it even treads water. This film is a love letter to one of the greatest heroes of modern culture and a tribute to the recently deceased creators of Spider-Man, Steve Dikto and Stan Lee. If you haven’t seen it yet, then you need to drop what you’re doing and buy some tickets. You will not regret it. Just look at this scene!

My hair stood up in excitement. This captures what makes Spider-Man great, in a way that words alone cannot capture.

Year of Superheroes in Conclusion

So, in conclusion, this year was an amazing year for superhero movies, and it’s going to be one of the things I will remember it for. For the other things I want to remember about 2018, check out my year in review, out soon! Peace out!

J’s 25 Days of Christmas: Last Christmas! Ducktales

Deadpool Christmas
I’m actually J, but I wanted to use this gif.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS, everyone! It’s time to kick off my 25 days of Christmas. I watch a new Christmas Special every day and talk about it with you guys. And it just so happens that a new one came on this morning. So, here’s my first special, Last Christmas from Disney’s Ducktales!

Ducktales Christmas Special
A Duck Family Christmas

A Dr. Scrooge Christmas

Next to Ducktales, Scrooge McDuck is probably most famous for playing his namesake in Mickey’s A Christmas Carol. When this special starts, he also seems to hate Christmas as much as Ebeneezer Scrooge did. He scoffs at everything Christmas related, and even goes “Bah, humbug!” It looks like he’s set for another Christmas Ghost visit. And he gets it… though not in the way you’d think!

Ducktales celebrates the holidays in style.
I love the nod to The Christmas Carol, both the Disney version and the classic one. It’d be even cooler if they could have used Pete, Willy, and Jiminy Cricket, though

Turns out the Ghosts of Christmas met him years ago after mistaking him for Ebeneezer, and every year they go back in time to party for Christmas. Scrooge’s just faking hating Christmas… except for Santa, he hates him.

Scrooge really hates Santa Claus
I am very curious about what Santa did to make Scrooge hate him so much!

Things Get Crazy

Long story short, Scrooge goes off to party, only for the Ghost of Christmas Past to get upset at the idea of Scrooge leaving them to spend Christmas with his family. Fight ensues, and Past (played by Jack McBrayer) gets stranded in the past.

Wander is now a cricket
So much for Jiminy Cricket. Plus side, we get Wander back for an episode!

The second half… okay, I didn’t pay attention as much as I should have. But Dewey ends up back in the past where he meets his Uncle Donald as a kid. He also manages to meet his mom as a kid. Considering how hard he tried to find out what happened to their mom last season, this was a very emotional moment for him. It doesn’t take long for Donald and Della to figure out he’s a relative from the future (Duck Family after all) and then Scrooge comes to get him, along with Past.

Ducktales Christmas
With a family like this, time travel is not that strange

Oh, yeah! Past got stuck in the past and got turned into a monster because he was so lonely missing Scrooge. So to make up to him, Scrooge invites the Ghosts to a Christmas Party with his family.

I Love This!

I loved this special overall. The “Christmas Carol” premise has been repeated a lot in the annals of Pop Culture, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it subverted and then tossed like this! There were also plenty of references to Mickey’s A Christmas Carol, and even a reference to Scrooge’s first appearance! But the best part is that we get a look at Della in the present day. The Season One finale revealed that she’s still alive and stuck on the Moon (how is she breathing, though?), and from the looks of things, she’s working on making a new spaceship to get her home. I really hope we get to see that play out to the end. Ducktales is one of the best cartoons Disney has right now, and I can’t wait to see what they do next.

Ducktales Christmas
She’ll be home soon. I hope

Overall, this was a memorable Christmas special and the perfect way to start my countdown. Happy Holidays Everyone! I love Ducktales Christmas!
