Edens Zero Chapter 269 Review/Recap

Sorry for not posting anything for this chapter sooner, but due to the break for the holidays, I felt it better to wait. That being said, this is one of those chapters that doesn’t fully expand on the big plot. The main highlights are on Homura and Valkyrie, master and student. Or rather, that is what they were before this chapter. Now, they are equals, the Swords of Edens

Recap

With Wizard now defeated, Witch is free to give her part of the ships shutdown code. The only one left is Valkyrie, but she and Homura are tied up in their dogfights in space. 

Having trouble fighting Aconella in her fighter, Homura decides it’s better to go for broke. Exiting the fighter, she enters Overdrive, gambling that it can protect her from the vacuum of deep space, much to Valkyrie’s surprise. Not wanting to look bad in front of Homura, Valkyrie decides to follow suit. 

Aconella fends off Valkyrie while proclaiming herself the mother of dragons. Homura, though, doesn’t care or listen, calling her Elsie’s mother as she slices clean through one of her dragons. Caught off guard, Aconella and Brigandine are unable to stop the Swords of Eden from running them straight through with their blades!

Making it back to her fighter before her Overdrive, Homura compliments her teacher for how good she is. In contrast, Valkyrie admits that Homura’s own final strike was better than hers. Either way, with Brigandine and Aconella down, Valkyrie can send the code to Hermit. Thus, with all four codes, Hermit can stop the self-destruct countdown!

Review

Remember in Universe One, how Homura struggled against that duplicate of her master despite winning in the end? Take that image and place it against her in the present day. She’s gotten far stronger since the events that took place, from Homura’s perspective, at least, years ago. Even if Homura still holds Valkyrie as stronger by virtue of being her teacher, it’s clear that she’s surpassed her mentor/mother figure. Or, at the very least, that she’s now her equal. We should start calling the two the Swords of Edens!

Praise aside, it’s a little disappointing that Aconella went down so easily. Again. She had the audacity to call herself the Mother of Dragons, but she’s no Daenaerys Targaryen, and everyone knows it. It’s almost pitiful to see that, for all her boasting, Elsie’s birth mother is little more than a chump.

The other big disappointment to this chapter, though, was the fact that Brigandine went down so quickly. Unlike the other Shining Stars, we didn’t get any further insight into their past lives. Thus, no further clues as to what the truth about what’s going on. 

This wasn’t that big of a chapter, as far as the story goes, but at least the threat to the Edens Zero has been averted…for now. Knowing the story, it’s only a matter of time before it happens again.
