What Happened at the Reverie? The Truth Will Shock You!

One Piece Chapter 1083 Review/Recap

Ever since word broke out about the chaos at the Reverie, fans have been wondering one thing: what happened?!? King Cobra’s apparently dead, Sabo’s accused of killing him, Vivi’s on the run, and the Revolutionary Army’s declared war. The fandom’s in chaos trying to guess what happened. As of this week, though, fans need no longer speculate. Sabo begins to reveal the full extent of what happened at the Reverie. What happened was…shocking.

Recap

Meeting with Dragon and Ivankov, Sabo confirms that their raid on Mariejois met all their goals. They declared war by destroying the symbol of the Celestial Dragons. They freed Kuma and as many slaves as possible. Most importantly, they destroyed the Celestial Dragon’s food reserves. Between that, the eight successful uprisings worldwide (including Lulusia), and attacks on their supply lines, this is a major win for the Revolutionaries. Slowly but surely, they plan to starve Mariejois.

Dragon notes, though, that things won’t start until the Celestial Dragons send out their forces, the Holy Knights. In addition, he notes that, regardless of the truth of Cobra’s death, Sabo’s been made a hero out of it, irrespective of whether Cobra was a good ruler or not. Sabo admits he can live with that, though, as he starts explaining what happened at the Reverie.

One month ago, when Sabo and the Revolutionaries raided Mariejois, it was chaos. The Four Captains of the Revolutionary Army freed every slave they could find, battling the World Government forces and Fujitora and Ryokugyu in the process…and winning. Meanwhile, Sabo’s found Kuma with Charloss, who still wants to kidnap Shirahoshi!!!

Elsewhere, Vivi’s being “guarded” by Lucci and CP0, who rightfully doesn’t trust them while her father meets with the Five Elders. However, since only King Cobra can meet with them, Chaka and Pell are told to look after Vivi and keep her safe instead while he goes in, alone.

We know where this is going.

Review

Every time we get a break, Oda comes back swinging with a new chapter, and holy cow, was this good! The Revolutionary Army’s finally making its move to take down the World Government, and they have my full support! Even if there are plenty of genuinely good people in its ranks, even in the Celestial Dragons, as a whole, the World Government needs to go down. I honestly can’t imagine an ending to One Piece where it survives intact, and I doubt most fans can, either. They’re going to fall; Roger ensured that with his final words, but the Reverie started the death knells.

As far as the action goes, this chapter delivered yet another banger as we saw the Four Captains of the Revolutionary Army show off their skills. Seeing them hold their own against the Admiral’s is a testament to how big a threat they truly are, even if the latter held back due to the Celestial Dragons. I really enjoyed seeing Karasu’s Devil Fruit powers. A Soot-Soot Fruit doesn’t sound powerful, but given how he can create animals and shapes out of it, I’d say its versatile. That, and his design’s cool.

Plus, the first talk about these “Holy Knights,” has been a big point of discussion in the fandom. Fans are coming up with all kinds of ideas about them, but one stands out in particular. A few fans can’t help but notice how the silouthette of one of the Holy Knights looks an awful lot like Shanks. Is it a coincidence or a clue that there’s more to Shanks than we know? I’m hoping that Shanks isn’t actually working for the World Government, though, because that might crush Luffy.

Cobra Becomes a Martyr for the Cause

Now, onto the meat of this chapter: the death of Cobra. Until proven otherwise, it’s safe (but sad) to say that King Cobra’s dead. While the Five Elders probably killed him for asking about the Void Century, Sabo got blamed. The tragic part is that unlike a lot of rulers in One Piece, Cobra was one of the ones that did a good job. He cared about his country above all else, and thus, Dragon had no problem with him. Given how hated the ruling elite seems to be, though, Dragon points out the public won’t see the nuance and just praise Sabo for what they think he did.

As callous as it might sound, I don’t think Cobra would mind this outcome that much, and I doubt Vivi might, either. They both know (or knew) how corrupt the World Government was and how things needed to change. If Cobra’s death helps lead to the end of the World Government, then I think he would be fine with that. In other words, he likely went into the meeting knowing he’d end up a martyr. I hate what happened, but I respect his courage.

One Piece has been on an absolute roll for the last few months, and this chapter was straight fire. We’re finally getting the full picture of what happened at the Reverie, and Oda doesn’t intend to leave us disappointed. I’m more excited than ever to see what happens next week; this is a great time to be a One Piece fan!

Side note, I’m really hoping that Shirahoshi and her family got out of Mariejois safely.

I Give “The Truth About that Day” a 4/5

One Piece Chapter 1066-Dr Vegapunk, Present Day

The Will of Ohara Lives! So Says Vegapunk!

One Piece Chapter 1066 Review/Recap

Remember Ohara, the island that stood against the world in the name of the truth. Longtime fans of One Piece know Ohara as the homeland of Nico Robin, the Straw Hat Pirates’ resident archaeologist. When their pursuit of knowledge led them to try and seek out the truth about the Void Century and the rise of the World Government, that organization retaliated by wiping them all out. However, they failed to finish the job in more ways than one. Not only did Robin survive and vow to finish what her people started, but as we learn in this chapter, Vegapunk and Dragon also took up their cause. The Will of Ohara lives to this day.

For her part, Robin’s shocked when Punk Shaka reveals new information regarding the fate of Ohara. Firstly, he was friends with Professor Clover, Robin’s mentor. His desire to learn the truth about the Void Century led to them becoming friends in their younger days. So when he learned of Ohara’s fate, he knew it was all lies. After Ohara’s destruction, he traveled to the island to pay respects to Clover. It was then that he saw something amazing.

There, amidst the lake of the Tree of Knowledge, were all the books and research done by the people of Ohara. The Giants came to retrieve all of them and take them back to Elbaf as Vegapunk and Dragon looked on. For Dragon, the destruction of Ohara was the last straw, prompting him to start the Revolutionary Army. As for Vegapunk, he traveled to Elbaf in secret and memorized everything that the Giants saved, using that to fuel his own research. In addition, Punk Shaka reveals that Jaguar D. Saul, the Giant who fought for Ohara, is still alive. Vegapunk’s been waiting all this time to meet Robin to confirm everything he’s theorized. She tearfully does this, thanking him for carrying on the will of Ohara.

Meanwhile, in the junkyard, Luffy’s group tries to get the robot activated, only for it to suddenly explode! Then, make things even stranger, out of the explosion comes the actual Vegapunk!

What is even going on here?!?

Review

So many things make sense now, but it’s hard to wrap my mind around them.

For our part, I think Oda just explained some of Dr. Vegapunk’s actions in the story and aiding the World Government’s enemies, despite working for them. He was old friends with Dragon and Professor Clover. That might explain why he agreed to Kuma’s last request. It was his way of helping out Dragon and Luffy. In addition, it also explains why the Punks didn’t try and kill the Straw Hat’s earlier. He’s wanted to meet the son of his old acquaintance and Clover’s apprentice.

If it wasn’t already obvious, Vegapunk seems to have no loyalty to the World Government. The only reason he’s worked for them was to preserve the will of Ohara and the knowledge it gathered about the Ancient Kingdom. Now that Robin’s here, he might be able to pass everything along to her.

Vegapunk needs to either join the Straw Hat’s or defect to the Revolutionary Army. His talents are wasted with the World Government, especially now that we know they’re planning to kill him.

On top of that, we learned that Jaguar D. Saul’s still alive. Kuzan didn’t kill him. Better yet, the library of Ohara’s in Elbaf, the home of the Giants. As if we didn’t need anymore reasons to go to Elbaf, now we have this. I’m hoping to God that it’s the next stop after Egghead Island. The will of Ohara lives on, and it’s time for Robin and the Straw Hat’s to claim it.

Also, did you see the size of Vegapunk’s head in the past? How is that even possible?!?!?

I Give “The Will of Ohara” a 4.5/5

One Piece Chapter 1058-Crocodile and Mihawk Chew Out Buggy Colored
August 27, 2022 | Roderick J "Jay" Friz

So That’s Why they Think Buggy is a Yonko!

One Piece Chapter 1058 Review/Recap

So, as the Wano Country Arc was winding down, we got some big news from the outside world. Not only was Luffy one of the Yonko, but Buggy, of all people, got declared one! In addition, Buggy’s the head of this Underworld group, Cross Guild, that’s put bounties on the Marines. On top of that, Sabo got blamed for killing King Cobra of Alabasta at the Levely. In other words, a lot happened while Luffy and the others were fighting Kaido and Big Mom. As One Piece enters what might be its final arc, it’s time to take stock of everything. Firstly, Buggy and Cross Guild.

One Piece Chapter 1058-Luffy Gets Punished

After Luffy’s stunt trying to leave Wano almost killed everyone, Nami puts him on time-out. In a cage. That gets overshadowed, though, by the news of the new bounties for the Straw Hats:

Elsewhere, Crocodile and Mihawk are “meeting” with Buggy, demanding to know why he’s being called a Yonko and head of Cross Guild. In a flashback, the events that took place are revealed.

After the Warlords got dissolved, Crocodile gave Mihawk a call and suggested they team up to form a new group. Afterward, they waste the Marines sent after Buggy, because Buggy owes Crocodile money. Since he’s broke, though, Buggy offers his organization to help Crocodile start up his own group. There’s just the matter of why everyone’s calling Buggy the head of Cross Guild. Turns out, Buggy’s people made him look the coolest on the posters before sending them out worldwide. Thus, the Marines assume he’s the one who’s leading Cross Guild.

In truth, though, Mihawk and Crocodile let him be their puppet so they can do what they want from the shadows. Thus, Buggy’s trapped in an impossible situation.

One Piece Chapter 1058-A Call from Sabo

Meanwhile, in the Kamabakka Queendom, the Revolutionary Army’s dealing with the news regarding Sabo, who separated from everyone else after they rescued Kuma. As everyone processes the news, they get a call over the Snail from none other than Sabo himself!

Review

If it wasn’t before, then now it’s official: Buggy the Clown’s the Mr. Satan of One Piece. By that, I mean a character that the majority of the world considers extremely powerful, while those who know him understand he isn’t. The sad thing is, with his Chop-Chop powers, he could be powerful if he wanted to.

One Piece Chapter 1058-Poor Buggy
Source-TCB Scans, Shonen Jump, Viz Media

It’s hard not to feel bad for the poor clown, knowing how badly he’s in over his head. However, knowing that alongside Mihawk. It might not seem like much, but that’s a big development for two reasons.

Firstly, Hawkeye Mihawk’s the best swordsman in the world. Zoro’s goal in life is to surpass him, so there’s little chance Oda will end One Piece without the two having a rematch. Secondly, the high odds of this rematch means that the Straw Hat’s might lock horns with Cross Guild, and thus Crocodile, when that happens. It would be pretty cool to see Luffy and Crocodile fight once more.

Source-TCB Scans, Shonen Jump, Viz Media

Side note, Buggy might have a higher bounty than Luffy right now, but that won’t last. Luffy’s eventually going to get the highest bounty as he gets closer to Laugh Tale; higher than even Gol D. Roger.

One Piece Chapter 1058-Kuma is Safe
Source-TCB Scans, Shonen Jump, Viz Media

Then, there’s things with the Revolutionary Army. It’s confirmed that they succeeded in rescuing Kuma. Whether they can return him to what he once was is another matter, since he’s now a machine. However, the bigger issue is what happened with Sabo and the Nefetari’s. Dragon does say that he won’t forgive Sabo if he killed Cobra, though. That at least proves that Dragon doesn’t hate rulers who actually care about their people.

Regardless, we won’t learn the truth about what happened at the Levely for another two weeks. One Piece is back on break, but that’s fine. Oda’s earned the right to rest as much as he wants.
