Don’t Make Nami Mad. You Won’t Like it!
One Piece Chapter 1012 Review/Recap
Welcome back to One Piece, everyone! The series was on break last week due to it being Golden Week in Japan, but now the show’s ready to continue. As you recall, last chapter ended with Big Mom unexpectedly attacking Ulti and Page One for the Beast Pirates destroying Leftover Town. On the surface, it seems like she’s on the Alliance’s side, but I said that this wasn’t likely. However, that’s not the big moment for this chapter. That honor falls to Nami, as she reminds us why angering her is one of the dumbest things you can ever do.
No, really. You do not want to make Nami mad!

Recap
Across Onigashima, the members of the Alliance continue to move throughout the island. As the Scabbards head to protect Momonosuke, Kin’emon notes how their forces remain stretched thin. As a result, the Scabbards split up to reinforce their allies. Kin’emon heads to Shinobu and Momonosuke; Kiku plans to take out Kanjuro, while Izo and Kawamatsu will seek to aid their friends wherever they’re needed. Nekomamushi goes with a few Minks to find Perospero and avenge Pedro’s death.

Across the island, several other events are occurring. Sanji came across a badly injured Zoro and has been hauling him around on his back to the Live Floor, only to run into Izo and Kawamatsu. As for Yamato, he leaves Momonosuke and Shinobu in a crawl space while he draws everyone away. That, and he gives Momo his father’s logbook.

While all of this is going on, Big Mom’s still pissed at the Beast Pirates for destroying Leftover Town. However, she makes it clear that she’s not on Nami and Usopp’s side. In the meantime, Otama tries to flee with Komachiyo, only to get whacked by Ulti. And when Otama tries to defend her friend, Ulti slaps her across the face. BIG. MISTAKE. Big Mom is already mad, but at this point, Nami loses any fear she may have. As a result, she gives Ulti some much-deserved lightning karma.

Review
Like I said: you don’t want to make Nami. Bad things happen to people who make Nami mad!

All joking aside, I’m glad to see that Nami’s finally going to face down the pirate that’s been causing her grief for who knows how many chapters. However, I’m also concerned about the fact that Big Mom is still going to tear Nami and Usopp limb from limb. If Nami is lucky, Big Mom may end up deciding to spare her as thanks for protecting Otama. Though, I doubt she’ll be that fortunate. Also, Big Mom remains the enemy, and she needs to go down.
While it’s unfortunate that this chapter did not show us any of the fight between Luffy and Kaido, it’s necessary to move the rest of the arc along. With a fight as big as the one on Onigashima, Oda has to juggle a lot of big events. However, I don’t mind that; heck, I think that it’s a great thing. This is the biggest arc that Oda’s done thus far, and it deserves a legendary climax. Plus, at the rate things are going, Nami may end up getting Zeus back for good.

Big Mom Proves Even Evil Has Standards
One Piece Chapter 1011 Review/Recap
Have you ever heard of the trope “even evil has standards?” It’s a very popular trope created for a sole purpose. And that purpose is to show that if even the villains are disgusted by something, then you know that it’s bad! And in this case, it’s Big Mom who shows us that even evil has standards.

Recap

On the roof of Onigashima, Kid and Killer are dismayed to see that Big Mom’s alive and headed their way. Worse, she reveals that she just made a new Homie, Hera. Hera’s a Homie made from actual lightning, and Big Mom wastes no time in using her power to send the two into the skull dome. That’s when their luck gets even worse as they’re confronted by Hawkins. Killer stays behind to face his fellow Supernova while Kid goes to find Big Mom. Meanwhile, with everyone else having left the dome, Kaido and Luffy resume their fight on much more even terms.

Down below, Usopp, Nami, and Tama are still running from the wrath of Page One. They’re throwing everything they have at the freak, but he just shrugs it off.

Just when they’re on the ropes, Big Mom herself shows up! Fortunately, she remembers Tama from when she helped her before and thanks her for the kindness she showed her. However, when she learns that Kaido’s men burned down Leftover Town, she becomes enraged. As a result, she declares that even in the world of pirates, people still have standards, and attacks Page One. Much to everyone’s shock. Even evil has standards.

Review
Holy cow, you guys. I wasn’t expecting this turn of events. Like, at all! I actually think that I forgot about the fact that Big Mom got amnesia or that she befriended Tama and the people of Leftover Town. I had thought that after she got her memory back, she stopped caring about them. But I guess I was wrong. Even someone as evil as Big Mom can have standards in the end.
I’m not going to say that Big Mom’s an ally just yet, though. She’s not going to forgive Luffy for all the trouble he’s caused her. Best case scenario, she’s now a wildcard in the fight for Onigashima. And given how many wildcards are already in play, that’s saying something!
It’s a shame that the manga’s on break again next week, but I’d take that over Oda letting his health deteriorate. That man’s a global treasure and deserves as many breaks as he wants. As for me, I can’t wait to see what happens next in One Piece. and for the anime to reach the raid!
