One Piece Chapter 1108 Review/Recap
Well, the World Government’s sequel to the Buster Call on Ohara will be a flop. The Pacifistas have turned on them for good, the Giant Pirates are decimating their forces, and Kizaru and Saturn have to face a very angry Sanji and Luffy. However, this may come at the cost of Dr Vegapunk, now critically wounded and at death’s door. Yet the genius scientist may have already won. A message is ready to be sent out to the world. The question is, what message could it be?

Having met Caribou, Van Augur’s first instinct is to shoot him, thinking he might be after Blackbeard’s life. The Wet-Haired pirate pleads with them not to do it, offering all his information on the Ancient Weapons if they let him join.
Meanwhile, the Buster Call’s going poorly. The Pacifistas are laying waste to the Navy battleships with firepower and bubble shields. It gets to the point where the Vice-Admirals consider calling it off. Instead, they decide to kill Bonney, with one coming in a hair’s breadth of her and Franky. Thankfully, Dorry, Brogy, and the other giants arrive and one-shot their assailant. While their crewmembers escort Franky and Bonney’s group to safety, Dorry and Brogy press on towards Luffy and Vegapunk. At the same time, the remaining Vice-Admirals mobilize to deal with the giants, knowing how dangerous they can be.
Back with Luffy and Sanji, they don’t know how to get Vegapunk out of there, even though the man insists he’s staying behind. Saturn also returns, transforming even further into a demonic spider whose legs can melt trees! Luffy tells Sanji to get Vegapunk out of there while he holds off Saturn, but Kizaru impales the doctor with his light sword before they can!
Now enraged, Luffy grows to the size of a giant and grabs Saturn’s head in one hand and Kizaru in the other. Declaring that he won’t let either escape, he hurts Kizaru bad enough to make him cough up blood! As Sanji makes his escape, he can’t help but notice Vegapunk smiling. At the same time, in the Labo-phase, a pre-recorded message begins to broadcast to the world. The genius scientist explains that he’s about to tell them the truth about the world they live in.
Review
Remember when we thought that Egghead Island was going to be a transitional arc to take us into Elbaf? We were dead wrong. This might be one of the most important arcs in the entire story! The introduction of Vegapunk, Kuma, and Bonney’s tragic backstories, the reveal of what happened at the Reverie! So many things are happening worldwide, and keeping track is hard! Even so, let’s try.
Firstly, something tells me that Caribou will be brought before Blackbeard. That man won’t be able to pass up the chance to learn the location of two Ancient Weapons, which means that Fishman Island and Wano Country might be in danger. Oda is laying the groundwork for future events.
On the Bonney front, it’s more likely that Bonney will join the Straw Hats. She’s been looking for Nika for years and will want to be near Luffy now that she knows it’s him. Furthermore, being able to control the Pacifistas, which likely includes the Seraphims, puts a target on her back for the rest of her life. Who better to protect her than the people who keep defying the World Government and getting away with it? Heck, Luffy should adopt her as her little sister!
While seeing Luffy manhandle Saturn and Kizaru is satisfying after all they’ve done (mostly Saturn), the big question is what’s going on with Vegapunk. Is he going to die? That would be incredibly sad, as he’s proven himself to be a very likable character. However, even if he dies, Vegapunk already planned a way to get the last laugh. And it all has to do with his message to the world.
Vegapunk Planned to Tell the World the Truth
He pre-recorded himself, explaining everything he knew about the world’s true history. About the Ancient Kingdom, Joyboy/Nika, and especially about the lies of the World Government. And he set it up so that if he were to die, it would broadcast worldwide, revealing the centuries-old deception of the World Government. Just as important, if he set it up to go out in the event of his death, it would out the World Government as the ones who killed him.
This message to the world could be a game-changer. Thanks to the Revolutionary Army, several countries have already started to rebel against the World Government. However, the last straw might be Vegapunk outing them for the monsters they are, coupled with their attempts to kill such a beloved scientist. People across the globe could rebel against the World Government and throw their support behind Dragon or even Luffy.
Regardless of the message, we’ll likely get a significant lore dump in the next chapter. Between that and the implication that Dorry and Brogy will help Luffy fight Saturn and Kizaru, I am beyond excited for the next chapter! The only downside is that One Piece will likely go on another break afterward, as it is the formula the manga follows. It will be worth it, though!
