Who’s the Fool Now, Saturn?
One Piece Chapter 1106 Review/Recap
I discussed two critical points in my review of last week’s One Piece chapter. Firstly, while the title referred to Saturn’s statement of Bonney being a fool, Oda referred to Saturn himself. He thought he could stop what was coming, but nothing could. Secondly, I predicted that the ones coming to Egghead Island were the Giants. As this chapter proves, I was right on the money on both counts. Not only are the Giants coming, but this chapter reveals that Vegapunk outsmarted Saturn.
Who’s the fool now, Saturn?

Recap

As the Marine grunts close in on Luffy to put him in seastone handcuffs, they move too late. He already finished eating everything and is ready to fight some more.
Meanwhile, with the Pacifista’s about to kill Bonney and the others, Vegapunk pulls out his trump card. Unable to bear the idea of one of her father’s clones (or him) killing her, Vegapunk made secret alterations to their programming. They would obey Bonney over even the Five Elders.

Thus, when Atlas tells Bonney this and she asks them to help her escape, the Pacifista’s turn on the Navy and start destroying their ships. The act comes at the cost of Vegapunk being impaled by a furious Saturn. Ordering Kizaru to kill them all, the Admiral manages to hurt everyone but Bonney. Before he can deliver the killing blow, though, Luffy punches him in Gear Fifth form!

Using his rubber powers to turn the ground into rubber, Luffy declares it’s time to have fun. As Bonney reaches the wounded Vegapunk, the scientist spells it out for her: Luffy, the boy Kuma put so much faith in, is HIM. He’s the Sun God Nika, AKA Joyboy.
To make things worse for the Navy, another massive ship appears off the coast of Egghead Island. Aboard it are none other than the Giant Pirates, led by Dorry and Brogy. They’re here to help Luffy, or as they call him, the Sun God!

Review
Like I said before, who’s the fool, Saturn? It’s you. These last few chapters have been nothing but a series of humiliations for a creature that considers himself a god, and after everything he’s done, it’s cathartic. Even though Vegapunk did get impaled by Saturn, I couldn’t stop grinning ear to ear. I’m going to need to review everything piece by piece.
Verdict: Saturn is the Real Fool Here
While Oda is well-known for creating antagonists that fans will love to hate and see get brought down, Saturn is, by far, one of his most extreme hate sinks to date. After learning how much pain he put Kuma and Bonney through, fans cheered when they saw Kuma land that punch on him. However, that was only the start of the humiliation, as the last few chapters prove how much of a fool Saturn is. This chapter was only the latest example.
Saturn has the title Warrior God of Science and Defense, but he’s none of those things. He’s not even a good scientist. If he were, he might have noticed how Vegapunk defied him not once but twice. First, by altering Kuma’s self-destruct button, and now by putting Bonney at the top of the Pacifista’s hierarchy. A being who calls himself a god got played by someone he considers an insect. So, who’s the absolute fool, Saturn?

Even worse for Saturn, whatever impact his attempts to break Bonney had left is now null and void, with Vegapunk confirming that Luffy is the next Nika.
Vegapunk and Luffy Will Have the Last Laugh
Sadly, the worst-case scenario seemingly happened, with Vegapunk being impaled by Saturn. Despite how bad it looks for him, I’m not at the point of worrying about his life. Others have survived with injuries that were equally as bad and come back from it. In addition, we shouldn’t discount that A.) they’re on an island with the best technology in the world, and B.) they have the best minds in the form of Satellites and Chopper.

If Vegapunk dies, though, that doesn’t mean the other Satellites will. They could end up surviving and continuing his work. However, it could also lead to losing all of his knowledge, which would be a huge blow. Yet despite knowing he might not live to see it, Vegapunk could go out knowing what Kuma did: that Luffy will save their world.
After what’s happened on Egghead, there’s no way that the Straw Hats will walk away without learning about Nika/Joyboy and how Luffy is almost certainly his newest incarnation. I doubt that Luffy will care, but as Vegapunk puts it, people have waited centuries for the return of Nika. He even calls a Buster Call, the World Government’s most feared weapon, trivial in the face of such an event.
In other words, Vegapunk could go out knowing he’ll have the last laugh, though I hope he doesn’t.
The Giants are Coming to Help
As previously stated, I had predicted in my last review that it was the Giants who were coming to Egghead Island. As this chapter proved, I was right. The only thing I didn’t expect, though, was that Dorry and Brogy would be the ones leading them to Egghead.
Nonetheless, their arrival’s a big deal, not just because they’re old friends of the Straw Hats. Owing to their long lives and great strength, the Giants likely know more about the Void Century than almost anyone alive. They’ve probably been waiting for Nika to reappear so they can fight on their behalf, and now that Luffy’s proven himself to be the next Joyboy, they’re doing precisely that. With their massive ship, size, and strength, they stand a good chance of wiping out the Buster Call fleet.
Ohara sends their regards.
Kick Saturn’s Butt, Luffy
We may have to wait another two weeks to find out what happens next, but I don’t care. The sight of Luffy going Gear Fifth and ready to lay waste to the Navy, Kizaru, and Saturn alongside the Pacifista’s and Giant Pirates will make it worth the wait. The fact that Bonney knows that all the stories her Dad told her were true brings tears to my eyes. If it means Oda can rest and ensure Saturn gets the beatdown he deserves, it’s worth it.

Three Reasons Why The Seraphim are Bad News
One Piece Chapter 1059 Review/Recap
With the story in Wano Country over, One Piece is free to focus on everything that happened abroad. And as we’ve learned, a lot happened. First and foremost was the decision to dissolve the Seven Warlords. As a result, the former Warlords are now hunted by the World Government, with Boa Hancock among them. However, that’s not the most surprising thing about this chapter. The biggest surprise is the little Seraphim-Esque cyborgs that the World Government now has.

Recap
Aboard the Red Force, the Red Hair Pirates take Marco back to Sphinx, with the latter refusing to join Shanks’ crew. He says he’s too old to babysit pirates as he flies back to Sphinx.
In a flashback, Yamato reveals her reasons for not joining the Straw Hat Pirates. The attack by Ryokugyu made her realize that with Kaido gone, others would come to try and seize Wano Country. Thus, she plans to stick around and look after everyone, which the Straw Hats respect. As for Marco, he heads out, but not before Luffy thanks him for saving his life at Marineford, to which Marco says Ace would be proud of how strong Luffy’s become.
Amazon Lily Under Attack

Meanwhile, on Amazon Lily, the island and the Kuja Pirates are in bad shape after the Marines attacked several weeks prior. During that battle, the Marines deployed a new breed of Pacifistas that looked like Seraphims, which came close to destroying the island. Then, to make matters worse, Blackbeard shows up to take Hancock’s power for himself!

While Hancock turns most enemies into stone, she’s no match for Blackbeard. Rather than take her powers, Blackbeard decides to outright kill her, despite this meaning that everyone she petrified can’t return to normal. Thankfully, Rayleigh pulls up and demands that she return everyone back to normal and for everyone to leave.

In the present day, Amazon Lily’s safe for the moment. However, they’re all worried by the Seraphims due to their insane strength. Moreover, one of them looked like a kid version of Hancock.
As for the Marines, they limp back to port with disturbing news: Koby was captured by the Blackbeard Pirates!

Review
Vegapunk, what did you do?!?
It’s safe to assume that these new Serpahim, as fans have dubbed them, are new Pacifistas created by Dr. Vegapunk. Firstly, their strength is greater than any normal child should be. The one that fought Blackbeard sliced off part of the mountain on Amazon Lily! More troubling than their strength, though, is their appearances.
The Facts of the Seraphim

Exhibit A: their skin and the wings growing out of their backs is an almost exact match to King of the Beast Pirates, who’s supposed to be the last known Lunarian left in the world. The fact that these Seraphim resemble the Lunarians cant’ be a coincidence.

Then there’s exhibit B: the two Seraphim deployed resemble kid versions of Hawkeye Mihawk and Boa Hancock. Except the copies are stronger than the real ones were as kids, and there’s no way that that’s a coincidence, either.
The jury’s still out on this, but here’s my theory for right now. Dr. Vegapunk got his hands on the DNA of the former Warlords, along with that of the Lunarians. Then, he combined them with his cybernetic knowledge to create the Seraphim. In other words, Vegapunk made a bunch of cyborg Lunarian hybrid clones to replace the Warlords. That is some Dr. Gero-level mad science going on.
More than all of that, though, it’s the name that worries me. In Judeo-Christian Theology, Seraphim are the highest level of Angels that serve under God. Vegapunk gave the World Government a group of terrifying angel-cyborgs to enforce their will worldwide. That is terrifying!
Blackbeard is a Menace and Needs to Be Stopped
The other big talking point about this chapter is Blackbeard himself. The man openly attacked the Marines and the Amazon simultaneously and whooped both their butts in the process. The only reason Hancock remains alive is that Rayleigh and Shakky show up. No matter how you look at it, Amazon Lily might not be safe for its people anymore. And as annoying as I find her crush on Luffy, I like Hancock, and I’m glad she’s safe now. But if Rayleigh admitted that he’d lose to Blackbeard now, everyone should be worried.
We still don’t know what Blackbeard has planned, but whatever it is, it will lead to him and Luffy finally throwing down hands. Especially since he’s kidnapped Koby, AKA Luffy’s friend in the Marines. They may be on opposite sides, but there’s no way Luffy will let Koby get hurt. As it stands, Luffy might be the only one who can stop Blackbeard.
As One Piece heads into the final stretch, Oda’s setting us up for the biggest war his world’s ever seen. All the pieces are getting put in place; all hands are on deck, etc. If there’s going to be a war between the Straw Hats, the World Government, and Blackbeard Pirates, then Oda needs to go all out. And in the next few weeks, that’s what we’ll be getting. That, and more explanation about the Seraphim, because they’re terrifying.
Also, side note: surprised that Shakky’s the former Pirate Empress of the Kuja Pirates. Didn’t see that coming. Also, it’s nice that Oda confirmed why Yamato didn’t join the Straw Hats.

I Give “The Captain Koby Incident” a 4.5/5
